I learned a lot from this book so I know kids would learn a lot and love reading it. There are 17 different types of penguins and they are only found in the southern hemisphere. Penguins store thick layers of fat to help keep them warm. Perfect book for a science lesson on penguins.

This is a general information book about the seventeen different types of penguins. Readers learn how the different types of penguins look, and then they learn how they differ in building nests for their young. Readers get to learn a little about how the penguins alternate caring for the baby chick

while the other parent searches for food. The chick grows up into fledglings that are now old enough to live on their own. They aren’t taught by their parents, but are left to their own devices. This is a good book for readers wanting to learn a little a little general information about penguins.

This book was written to interest children in grades K-3 and is on a 4.1 reading level.

In my opinion this is a great informational book! The author uses such engaging and organized writing in order to share the facts about Penguins. When reading informational text, the reader may become bored or not interested. They are reading about facts which does not catch their attention when

poorly written. The author does a great job at making the writing fun instead of just a list of facts about Penguins.
I also liked the illustrations! The illustrations also help keep the reader interested in what they are reading especially when it is all factual information. The illustrations are great visual representations of what the students are learning about. For example, if taking about where penguins nest, the illustrations shows the reader what they just read about where penguins nest. It helps them comprehend the information better than just being provided with textual information.
The main idea of this book is to teach students about penguins.
