This is an informational book about pigs. It is written for younger children and contains many useful facts. It tells about the features of a pig, their preferred environment, the different types and the fact that they are actually very clean and intelligent.

I found this book entertaining. There

are some good pictures and actaully some facts that I was not aware of such as pigs are good swimmers and when they are babies, they have their wolf teeth cut so they do not hurt eachother.

This book would be good to use in the younger elementary. It could be used to gather information for research.

This book has different fun facts about pigs. I talks about what you call male and female pigs. It talks about some of the different types of pigs. It discusses how pigs are not dirty animals at all that they roll in mud only when they do not have water to help their skin. It talks about where pigs

stay and what pigs are used for. (processing, show or pet)

This book was very child friendly and used language suitable for teaching young children about pigs. They pictures were fun to look at and decipher. The diagrams displayed different features relevant to pigs. Overall the text, to me, was something fun to look at if one came across it in the library

but I don't see it being a primary text used in the classroom for any reason. It would be interesting just to have a student, who is interested in farm animals maybe, read it. The book does do a great job uprooting some of the myths about pigs such as they are dirty and overeat. It, instead, tells the reader why the pig rolls in dirt and that they only eat as much as they need. Furthermore, the author talks of how many people see pigs as cute, friendly animals and own them as pets. The text definitely brings "humanity" to the view of pigs rather than just seeing them as food.
