I liked this book for a few reasons. For one, I liked the illustrations because they appeal to young students who need extra motivation to read informational text. Since the illustrations are simple, colorful drawings and not real photographs, the illustrations give the illusion of fictional text.

This may help younger students who like the pictures in fictional books to read informational books. Also, within the illustrations, there are captions to support the text. I also liked this book because it incorporated other topics other than farming. For example, the caption by the picture of the sun reads, “it is hot.” Also, there is another caption that reads, “days are shorter” when the book explains the farm in the winter. These captions are related to science and the features of different seasons. I liked the writing in this book because it was organized. The book contained headings such as, “Summer on the Farm,” “Winter on the Farm,” “Spring on the Farm,” and “Fall on the Farm.” This helps students to take note of the different components of a farm during that specific season. The big message of Farming is to inform students of different tasks that take place on a farm throughout the year.

This book was interesting and engaging to read and I enjoyed it for two reasons. The first reason I liked this book is because of the engaging and detailed illustrations. The book discussed the different chores on the farm for the four seasons, and each season’s information started with the same

picture of the barn, but slightly changed depending on the season. For example, the fall farm picture had trees without leaves and pumpkins in the field, while the winter season had snow on the ground and all the animals in the barn. The pictures were so detailed that I could visualize myself on the farm, as I have always wondered what it’d be like to grow up on a farm. I also liked this book because of the way the information was organized and presented. I like how it gave examples of indoor and outdoor chores for each season. For example, in the fall, an indoor chore is, “The eggs are packed for delivery” and an outdoor chore is, “The cows are milked.” I also like how the end of the book provides the reader with pictures of the different types of farming and a short blurb about each. The main idea of this book was to give the reader information about farming and the different tasks that come with living on a farm year round.

that is put into farming. I liked that the pages were broken up into sections and each section had a different piece of information about a specific topic. For example, on the different types of farming page, one box has dairy farms and says, "Dairy farms raise cows for their milk. The milk is sold to dairies where it is processed and packaged." The illustration is of cows.
