This biography covers the life and beliefs of Simon Bolivar. I found it interesting since I have never really read about him. I found it terrible that his parents and wife died so sudden in his life, but maybe that is what fired his passion to free Venezuela from Spanish control. I would use this

book for a history lesson. After reading the book, my students can also have a dress up day where they dress like Bolivar with the military type jackets and hats. You do not really hear much of South American history (or at least in my day) in the classrooms, and maybe it is time we start incorporating it. When learning about South American geography, this might be a good time to learn about Bolivar and the liberation of Venezuela.

I would read this book to students who are learning about leadership and Hispanic culture. Simon fought for his beloved Venezuela for independence from Spain. Simon shows courage, patriotism, and heroism. I want my students to understand that perspective of people from around the world and

different cultures from them. This book also has lovely illustrations.
