I enjoyed reading this book, though I don't think it's the best book I've ever read to the kids. As always with the Little Critter book, it was cute.

Summary

Little Critter keeps getting himself in trouble because he "just forgets." Each task that he forgets to do ends up having a consequence. Mother Critter tries to get her son to realize that throughout the story.

Reaction

Children and adults always forget things they are suppose to do. Although

I think Little Critter's forgetfulness is a bit excessive, I know that children of all ages can relate to the story. It would be a good book to read to reinforce the role of responsibility throughout the classroom.

Extension Ideas

Assign a task that each student is solely responsible for each week. This will give them the satisfaction of accomplishing a task they are in charge of, or will teach them that there are consequences when things are not done.

Have each student journal about something really important that they forgot to do, and then have them write about the consequences.

We have a lot of Little Critter books in this house. They're short, they're funny, they're topical, and they're cheap.

This book is a very realistic portrayal of how children remember things, or forget things... or remember what they should do but decide not to do it anyway :)

Like, Little Critter
Show More
forgets to feed the dog, but not the fish - the fish just didn't look hungry! (In the illustration, we can see the fish eagerly eating all the food Little Critter is giving it.) He didn't forget to take his boots off - he's going back out in the rain! He won't forget to put away his toys - oops, maybe he *did* forget.

Pretty funny stuff, if my nieces are any indication.

This book is about a kid that keeps forgetting things. He goes through his day explaining how and why he remembers some things and why he forgets others.

I like this book because it reminds me of myself. I’m always forgetting stuff. I go to the store with a mental list and I always walk out

forgetting something. Everyone has problems remembering things, so this book teaches everyone that we all forget something sometimes.

I could have the kids make a list of there daily routines. We could also talk about ways to help us remember stuff. For example, we could explore planners and calendars.

In this book the little boy is remembering many things, and he also forgets many things. Some of the time he remembers but he gets distracted. Therefore, he does not do what he knows he has to do. Other times he just simply forgets to do what he is told to do. He also tries to reason why he is
Show More
doing somethings like leaving his rain boots on in the house because he wants to go right back outside to play some more. At the end of the book, however, he says that he never forgets to have his mom read him a bedtime story. I liked this book for students as just a fun book that they can relate to because many of the students might do the same things as this little boy does.

I love Mercer Mayer books. And the Critter family. The stories are fun and easy first readers. It is a nice way to encourage kids to read . The books in the series are repetitive and fun . The pictures are colorful and expressive. The antics can happen in any house with young children

This book is about a little critter that forgets to do important chores around the house. Things that he forgets to do are things like feeding the dog and watering the flowers, just to name a few. The pictures in the book make it appear that when the critter forgets things it affects everything.
The end of the story the critter realizes that even though he forgets a lot of things one thing he never forgets is to have a bed time story and to get his good night kiss.

I can relate to this story because my kids have chorus around the house that need to done to help out the family. They forget to get some things done, although not life or death, but it does have an effect on our family. It affects whether we can go places, or leave on time, or have the things we need.

In the classroom, students love having their own job or task. When assigning task at the beginning of the year, you could read this book and explain that they may forget things. Also explain that when they forget to do things that it may have an effect on what happens throughout the day, but that you will not be upset with them that you will try to be encouraging to them. This might have a positive effect on their behavior because children love positive reinforcement. You can award the child at the end for remember their task.

This book is about a little critter that is often very forgetful. He forgets to put up things after he uses them. He also forgets things that his mother tells him to do. When it comes to things he wants however, he always remembers.

I can relate to this book because growing up every kid
Show More
“forgets” things that isn’t really important to them at the time. I never wanted to do certain chores that my parents would ask me to do.

In the classroom, after reading the book to the students, we can discuss what chores the children don’t like to do at home. We can also make up a list of these chores, and show how these chores are actually important to do.

This realistic fiction is truly inspiring. The way that the book enable children to really empathize with the readers and with real growing up situations. The point of view that the book is written in is truly a wonderful way for kids to feel validated. The book is written in first person, so it is

easily transferable from child to child.

I learned to read with The Critter Series and absolutely recommend these books for children of all ages! I Just Forgot is my favorite one. I love the pictures, the things he forgets to do, and mostly, his hilarious explanations of why he "just forgot". My favorite line in the story comes after he
Show More
takes a shower and proclaims, "I didn't forget to use soap, I just don't like soap!" The story wraps up with an adorable ending between the little critter and his mother, because the one thing he never forgets is his bedtime story.

Summary:
Little Critter keeps forgetting his chores. He comes up with some far fetched excuse to give his parents each time. When bedtime arrives, he DOES NOT FORGET to have momma read him a story.

Personal Reaction:
I really enjoy reading this book becaus I am very forgetful and it is always so much
Show More
easier to have an excuse than to just say "I forgot".

Classroom Extension:
1. I would read this book when teaching the children about chores in the classroom.

2. This would also be a good book to read when teaching about responsibility.

Little Critter is funny in this story as he forgets everything that he's supposed to do. He forgets to put away the milk, he forgets to put on his rain boots, and forgets to make his bed. The humor is funny and sarcastic that children will easily enjoy. This is a fun read!

I loved reading this book and students will really be able to relate to it.

This was the cutest book ever! This is an excellent example of seeing through the eyes of kids and their point of view. How funny? Kids think so differently form adults.

Extension Ideas:
1.Reading this book is a good way to introduce the beaver to the class. Students will be challenge to create their own beaver.

2.Students will be challenged in a creative writing assignment to tell how the boy beaver in I Just Forgot relates to them at home.

I like this book because of the illustrations. I think the illustrations enhance the story because they are engaging and appropriate in the way that they closely relate to the text on each page. This is helpful for a reader because they can use the illustrations to assist them with decoding the
Show More
text. For example, when the main character forgets his lunch, the illustration depicts his mother chasing after the bus with the character’s lunch box in hand. I think the central message of the book is responsibility. The main character is constantly forgetting to complete his duties around the house such as getting the newspaper, picking up his toys, and feeding his fish. I think this book can be used to teach readers responsibility. The book can help the reader recognize that there are things that they have to remember to do in order to be responsible and take care of their things.

In my opinion I thought this was a good book for children because it is most likely something they can relate/make a connection that also is conveying a bigger message. Everyone forgets things and thats okay but at the end of the day he never forgets whats most important and thats family.

This book is about a child that remembers to do the first step of things, but forgets the second. They remember to put one thing away but not the other.
This book is good for kids ages 4-10 because it reminds them that when they get things out they should put them away. No matter your age this is
Show More
always a good reminder!
I like this book because of that, it reminds kids that they become responsible for their actions no matter how little they are.

I thought this book was adorable for a variety of reasons! Throughout the book, the little boy expresses the multiple things he sometimes forgets to do, such as out his toys away or feed his puppy. Being forgetful is something that we all can relate to and it is a message young children should
Show More
learn as well. They should know that it is ok to forget sometimes because we all make mistakes! We can only be the best that we can be. I loved the ending of the book because it shows that the most important things in life are your family and your love for them no matter what.
The language in this book is simple and easy to understand no matter how old the reader may be, allowing al types of readers the ability to relate to this story. The pictures throughout the book show details, but not too much allowing the readers to focus on the story and the overall message. I also enjoyed how the story begins at the beginning of the day and progresses throughout the day until bedtime.
