Description

"New Yorkers aren't easily intimidated, but someone is doing their best to scare them, badly: why? After two inexplicable high-tech attacks, the city that never sleeps is on edge. Detective Michael Bennett, along with his old pal, the FBI's Emily Parker, have to catch the shadowy criminals who claim responsibility--but they're as good at concealing their identities as they are at wreaking havoc. In the wake of a shocking assassination, Bennett begins to suspect that these mysterious events are just the prelude to the biggest threat of all. Soon he's racing against the clock, and against the most destructive enemy he's faced yet, to save his beloved city--before everyone's worst nightmare becomes a reality" --

Another great James Patterson book. It really gives the reader something to think about. Could something the events in this book actually happen?

Oh my, this book was all over the map. The Day After Tomorrow in book form. What other calamity could strike New York City before hero Mike to the rescue?!? And of course super manny Martin saved his home life.

I love this series almost as much as I love the Women's Murder Club one, but this is
Show More
getting a little ridiculous and far fetched. A half step behind a bad Law & Order fic. That said, I read it in two plus days and will read the next one because it's what I do. Please don't hurt Seamus though.

And never expected FDNY manhole work to scare me!

I loved that we rarely saw Mary Catherine in this one. I was a little over too much lovey dovey between she & Michael. And I won't lie, I was waiting for him to jump in bed with Emily again. Why the unaddressed letter from Mary Catherine. This whole piece was a little weird.

Speaking of weird. A tour guide on a Cape Verde Island who just happens to be an intricate part of the plot? Nope. That's where this one went completely off the rails to me.

First let me say, I am a James Patterson fan - I found this book to be very interesting & written in almost true form that could happen today!....Plenty of action with family problems also along the way...written in short chapters, so really easy to read.......

I enjoyed this novel. Reminds us we live in scary times, but of course the good guys win in the end. I can only hope the good guys win in the real fight against terrorism.

New York suffers two baffling terrorist attacks, leaving its citizens on edge. Detective Michael Bennett, along with FBI agent Emily Parker, try to track down the elusive criminals responsible for the attacks.

But an official’s assassination causes Michael to think the terror attacks are simply a

prelude to something far more sinister . . . and deadly.

The believability of the terrorist attacks helps to ramp up the suspense in this fast-paced tale and the author’s trademark short chapters help to keep the suspense building. Characters are believable; the glimpse into the detective’s home life offers a welcome contrast to the treacherous intrigues that keep the pages turning.

Recommended.

I liked the audiobook - fast-paced and easy to listen to. But...it was a little far out that two psychos were blowing up stuff all over NYC. On the other hand, it really gives the reader something to think about. Could something the events in this book actually happen? NYC services are so large and

bloated, it's hard to believe that it can be this agile. His personal life is a mess--please author Patterson put me out of my misery--Michael Bennett can choose one woman or the other?

Another good one featuring the unbelievable Mike Bennett. I do enjoy reading about his adventures and life with his family. These books are guaranteed to be action packed from start to finish.
I did enjoy this one, not the best of the bunch but kept me interested enough.

Another great Michael Bennett story! I think I missed having more interaction with Mary Catherine. Their chemistry with each other and the children help to balance the mystery/thriller aspect of this series. But I did learn about tsunamis. 😉

Two exposions put New York on edge. With few clues to help Bennett and FBI agent Emily Parker, can they along with other law enforcement officers track down those responsible for the bombings before other innocent people are killed? Alert will keep you reading to the end.

Once again we meet up with Michael Bennett, his grandfather Father Seamus and his 10 children. MaryCatherine, his nanny and love interest, is off in Ireland trying to sell her mother's hotel, restaurant and golf course. Once again New York is under attack. Michael teams up with Emily Parker from

the FBI to track down and capture the culprits. With New York under attack, the Bennett family with the University nanny filling in for MaryCatherine and Seamus try to flee the city while their father continues to hunt. Another suspenseful read. I would recommend that you go back to the beginning of this series if you have not read them as they are all excellent stories.

I originally saw this book awhile ago, and after seeing it was the 8th in the Michael Bennett series I went and found the other 7 to read first, and I am glad I did as the prior books do provide quite a bit of depth to the character as well as those of the support characters, especially Emily
Show More
Parker & Mary Catherine.

In this installment there's quite a bit more action with what would appear to be terrorists targeting New York City, initially with a huge bombing, then an assassination and from there it only gets worse. All the while Bennett is reliant on a new nanny to help as Mary Catherine is overseas dealing with her mothers affairs and Seamus has a health scare that leaves him unable to be the front running care provider as he had been in the past.

I would have liked to have seen more time spent on the aftermath of the third attack however that in itself could have been an entire book so I can see why it was mostly glazed over to concentrate on the primary plot.

I would say it was the best book in the series so far, you could read it stand alone but there's definitely some benefit to reading the prior books.
