We have almost all of this series. I love the stories. They are all done so very well. I want to go on a field trip with Ms. Frizzle too!

Travel inside the human body for a look at your senses with that wacky Ms. Frizzle!

I would recommend this book for a classroom library. The Magic School Bus series are interactive and engaging books which teach science in a fun style. This book might be a nice literacy piece to include in a science lesson about the senses or to just have available for students to read on their

own.

This is a good example of science fiction because a school bus would not be able to fit into an ear, eye, mouth, or any of the other senses in real life, but it does in this book, and through that we are able to learn about the five senses and how they work and what they do. The audience knows it
Show More
is not possible for the school bus to do this, but at the same time, the audience does learn about established facts of science. The plot is very action-packed and fast paced. In the beginning, the characters and setting are introduced in Ms. Frizzle's classroom and then on the school bus with the assistant principle. However, the middle of the book is filled with conflict as the characters in the book are transported into the eye of the police officer, the ear of the child, the nose of the dog, the mouth of Ms. Frizzle, the finger of Ms. Frizzle, and then the ear of the cat. This is a conflict of self vs the environment. The conflict is resolved at the end when the characters land out of the cat's ear and the bus grew back to its normal size.

This book is informational and fantasy. Informational in that it gives many scientific facts about the senses, but fantasy because the children are riding on a magical school bus which takes them through the body.

This is a good example of a science fiction book because it is a fantasy about science that could not really happen because it goes against scientific law. Physically a bus could not fit inside an eye, but in this story that is exactly what happens. Some people would hate this book and not get into
Show More
it, but others would enjoy it because of the conflict between realistic science and what happens in this story. Miss Frizzle is a static character in this story because she starts off scatter-brained and unorganized and she remains that way throughout the story even though it constantly gets her into trouble.

Genre: This fantasy series has children who explore science through field trips on a magical bus. In this adventure, they explore the senses by shrinking down and entering sense organs and the brain.

Review: Plot.

This book is about the characters of the Magic School Bus series and how they explore the five senses. They explore sight, sound, taste, smell, and touch.

This is a good book for younger children to help them understand their senses and how each of them function.

This book can be used in conjunction
Show More
with a sensory table in an elementary classroom. Also, it could be used in an anatomy lesson for children to see what sense goes with what part of the body.

Once again Ms. Frizzle gets together with her class and goes on an adventure. This time they head through the body and explore the 5 senses.

I absolutely love Ms. Frizzle and The Magic School Bus!! I used to watch the cartoon everyday after school. I also love how this book has the text itself and includes extra educational facts aside from the illustrations. When you open this book, your eyes don't know where to focus. The pages are
Show More
cluttered with words, facts and pictures. It's great for the busy mind. The book would be great to read as an introductory to a science lesson about the five senses. It goes into great detail about the optic nerves and every part of the eye. And, of course, with the school bus shrinking and flying into a strangers eye, it also plays heavily on the child's imagination. The Magic School Bus adventures are a wonderful collection to keep in your classroom.

Mrs. Frizzle's class is preparing a song for their parent teacher meeting. At the end of the day Mrs, Frizzle goes to leave and her students are waiting for their bus, when their assistant principal, Mr. Wilde, tells them that the parent teacher meeting is that night not the next. With this, Mr.
Wilde and the kids get on the bus to try to catch up with Mrs. Friz. All of a sudden a light flashes green and Mr. Wilde pushes it, when he does the bus starts to shrink. While the bus is small it goes through an eye, an ear, a nose, a mouth, and a hand. When it does it tells you how all of these things work.

This book is about a group of students who are chasing after their teacher in a school bus and end up going on a journey of the senses. They go through the different layers of the eye, the ear, the brain, nose and mouth. They eventually turn make to normal size (as this was a magic bus that made
Show More
them all shrink) and everything goes back to normal. This is a great book for elementary students to learn about all of the different senses in their body as well as animals bodies and how they are similar or different. They also learn the depth that each body part has and how they all work together. This would be a good lesson for children in a health or body segment. They could pick a body part and test it. Like ears they could play different sounds and see if they recognize what the sounds are, they could taste different drinks to see if they knew what it was, or look at different shades of light to test their vision. This books themes are science and senses.

Genre: Science Fiction
Genre Critique: This book is a good example of science fiction based on how it not only tells a story, but delivers factual information as well (information on the senses). The books ideas may not be totally plausible (travelling through the human body in a school bus) but
Show More
that helps to make this book an adventure for the reader.
Review/Critique: I thought this book had an interesting way for students to learn more about the different senses humans have through seeing not only different facts scattered throughout the book, but in a story form as well.
Media: Pen and Ink, Watercolor, Colored Pencil, and Gouache for the paintings in the book

I love the Magic School Bus series and I could use this book in a unit on the senses. I could read even parts of the book. Each sense that we learn about i could read that part of the Magic School bus book.

This book can be used for a unit regarding the 5 senses and how they work together in the body to keep it functioning. This will bring students knowledge of the different systems that are present in the human body. Students would be able to engage in a health lesson that would work with the vocab
Show More
and ideas from the previously frontloaded information on the body. Students could have investigation stations and interact with each of the 5 senses that work together in the body.

SCIENCE NON_FICTION: (age range: secondary/intermediate)
This is a good example of science non fiction because it is loaded with scientific fact. It has many made up pictures and illustrations, however due to the fact that it explores the ins and outs of every body function, it is still very much
Show More
non fiction. The illustrations as well as the language are very precise and scientific. The book goes into a good amount of depth.
