Love this book. Rahab is one of my favorite Biblical characters. Rivers' writing style just gives me chills sometimes - I feel like I have a much deeper understanding of the world Rahab lived in and the difficulties she must have faced.

Somewhere in the publishing industry, there is a very precise set of guidelines on how to write Christian fiction that appeals to women. So many of these books read exactly the same: The writing is at this precise level of complexity; the emotions of the characters are precisely this deep; the
Show More
number of pages is exactly this amount. Scripture quotations have to consist of this percentage of the novel; historic context that percentage. Only history from the Bible is allowed, though; no facts that anyone could possibly claim contradict that good book can be added.

To summarize: there's nothing new or interesting about this book. It's simple candy for the already saved, and there are hundreds exactly like it. Stick to C.S. Lewis.

The Lineage of Grace series consists of 5 books, all fictional accounts of biblical women in the genealogy of Christ. Rivers does a good job portraying each of the famous characters and giving their point of view in the unique situations. Most people are familiar with at least some of these
Show More
stories, but reading a personal account shines a different light on the well-trod ground. The five books are listed below with the title and the woman they feature.

Unveiled – Tamar
Unashamed - Rahab
Unshaken - Ruth
Unspoken - Bathsheba
Unafraid - Mary

My favorite two of the series are Unveiled and Unshaken. I’ve always loved Ruth’s story and I knew very little about Tamar’s story. My lease favorite was Unspoken, which tells the story of David and Bathsheba. It was hard to connect to the characters' selfish motives.

One aspect I really like about the books is the fact that River prints the complete Biblical passage at the end. That allows the reader to see what she took from scripture and what she fictionalized. There’s also a devotional with relevant questions at the end of each book. I think they would be perfect for a small women’s Bible study or something similar, because the questions could spark good discussion.

It was good. But I enjoyed the one about Tamar more. I am on to Unshaken {Ruth}. I have always loved the story of Ruth. Hopefully this will give me more depth into her story & I will enjoy it just as much if not more so.

My only real complaint is that I wished it were longer, but you can't really fault a novella for length. I'll have to go and read the passages in the Bible and be impressed with how she brought these people to life.

I loved the message that no matter your heritage, no matter what you've done, God
Show More
knows His people and He will come for you.

I'm really looking forward to the others in this series.

Unashamed is the story of Rahab the prostitute and what she did to protect the spies sent from Israel to Jericho. Honestly before reading this rendition of what happened, I hadn't ever really given much thought to either Rahab or her future husband Salmon. But after reading Francine Rivers'
portrayal of Rahab's life up to when the spies arrived, what happened when she met them, and what happened thereafter, made it that much more real. I do think that that was what the author intended, so that was definitely an objective met!

One thing that stuck out to me while reading Unashamed is that Rahab had an interest in the Lord. Whether or not that was truly the case, I have to wonder, on account of the fact that she WAS driven by SOMETHING to want to hide the spies and help them. But was it fear? Faith? That's hard to say. But if it really was out of an honest desire to learn more about the God of Israel, it makes the rest of the story make more sense than just what we read about in the Bible. I especially like how at the end of each of the stories in this series, Francine has a study section for personal reflection and how it applies to my life.
