The concept of archetypes and its correlate, that of the collective unconscious, are among the best known theories developed by Jung. Volume 9 of the Collected Works of C. G. Jung consists of writings describing and elaborating the two concepts. This edition is extracted from The Archetypes and the Collective Unconscious, Part I of Volume 9, and four essays in this selection describe specific archetypes.
