This guide explores the meaning of Aphrodite and its connection to female sexuality, tenderness, procreation and subjectivity. The author explores how the meaning of Aphrodite arose, how it is constituted and how it is motivated. He gives special attention to Homer and to Sappho, whose poetry explores the sensous aspects of Aphrodite. Chapter four contrasts Aphrodite to the other queens of heaven: Hera, Athena and Artemis.
