I don't want to like this book, but I do. Damn.

A story to show that mothers always want their children to be happy.

When a little kangaroo is an Eeyore.

The story was very relatable from the get-go. I always have days where it's a "lovely summer morning" but I was "feeling grumpy and didn't know why." It was kind of funny to find myself relating to a baby kangaroo.
This would be a great book to read to a classroom or group because the book is

interactive. In some parts you have to turn it sideways in order to read it, making the book more vertical than horizontal - which was very interesting and enjoyable because the page had to do with how high the kangaroo was being tossed by his mother.
I also really like the direction of the text - it followed the kangaroos as they jumped in a wave-like line, adding a kind of motion or action to the characters that we only see in one spot.
In the end, we realize that there is no reason for us to not smile all the time, especially when it is so beautiful out and we are surrounded by loved ones.
