This book is a wonderful book to introduce the animals you can find in the jungle. The book walks you through all the different animals in the jungle and describes them with poetry by rhyming the last word. It is an easy read aloud that flows smoothly. The book also has good illustrations that

This book starts with a poem describing the jungle and looking for animals. On the journey through the jungle they find chimps, lions, rhinos, elephants, zebras, giraffes and many, many more. Each animal has its own poem about the animal’s behavior, eating habits or sounds. Then it ends with

another poem that is a night time poem and leaves all the animals to sleep

This is a cute, will illustrated book. It is brightly colored with bold illustrations that catch the eye. The individual animal poems are clever and informative. This book allows lots of potential for reader actions and sounds.

1. This would be a great introduction for a jungle animal’s lesson. They could cut and paste the sound with the animal.
2. You could also use this as a poem introduction. They could pick an animal and make a rhyming poem.

This book would be a great one to use when introducing poetry to second graders towards the end of the year. The kids will enjoy reading poems about animals. There is a nice rhyme scheme in each.

Summary: At the beginning of this story it states there’s a rumble in the jungle. It tells about three different animals that are there, hippos, leopards and chimpanzees. Then it says lets go to the jungle and see what we can find. First, they find a chimpanzee. Second, they see a lion. It then

tells how the lion is the king of the jungle. Third, they find an elephant a big and fat one. Next, they find a zebra, which states how they have stripes. They then find a snake, a giraffe, a hippopotamus, a crocodile, a rhinoceros, a gazelle, a gorilla, a leopard, and a tiger. Then in this story it lets you know that even if its night the jungle still is not asleep. Some animals are nocturnal. Throughout this story there is facts about each animal.

Self Reflection: I think this book is very interesting even as a young adult. I think this would make learning about animals a lot more interesting. I wish I would have had a book to read like this as I was growing up. This book takes you on an adventure.

Classroom Extension: This would be a great book to read when wanting the children to use their imaginations. The adventure this book takes them on makes imagination a key role. This would be a great book to read when talking and learning about animals. It gives facts about the animal while making it a fun book to read.

I truly enjoyed Rumble in the Jungle. This story is about all different animals that live in the jungle. It includes typical animals one would think of, as well as unique animals, like gazelles. Every other line in this story rhyme, which I thought was neat. I do not normally like poetry, but I

thought that this was cute. I think that poetry truly added to the book. I think this book could definitely be helpful for anyone learning about animals that live in the jungle.
One thing I really enjoy about this book are the illustrations. They are very kid friendly and big. There is not too much detail that the illustration is overwhelming. There is just enough detail to give the reader a picture of what is really going on, or what the animal looks like. I also enjoyed the size of each illustration. They were rather large, which I thought was convenient. In many instances, the stanza written about each animal is written on the animal’s body. I thought that was neat to see. In addition, the illustrations were accurate pictures of the words that were written. For example, “The gorilla is big, black, and hairy.” This sentence was alongside a picture of a large black gorilla. I think it is important that the illustrations match the words exactly, especially for someone who may just be looking at the pictures. This is especially important for readers who are using pictures to determine an unfamiliar word.
This book is not only interesting, but it is informative. It teaches the reader something, while still holding the reader’s interest. For example, “…who squashes then swallows his prey.” The author was talking about a snake here and that sentence informs the reader of how a snake would eat its food. I think it is important to make learning fun for readers. The main message in this book is that there are all different animals in the world and it is important to learn a little something about them. Overall, I loved this book. I would read it again, and recommend it to anyone curious about jungle animals.

Summary
The animals are waking up and we go into the jungle. We see and learn about different animals in the jungle like: chimpanzees, lions, elephants, zebras, snakes, etc. Now that it’s nighttime, the animals are going to sleep but not all the animals.
Personal Reaction
Okay, I think I keep

saying this but I LOVED this book. The children were so interested in the book and wanted to reread the book after we were done. The pictures were very colorful and although they talk about the animals they keep it short. Loved it!
Extension
We have this song called animal action, during the song we pretend like were different animals, and the kids love it. After I read the book, I played this song and it was so much fun. Maybe we can take a trip to the zoo. I think that would be super exciting for the kids
