The Perfect Terrorist Plot!

Many young women dream of being swept off their feet by a wonderful Prince Charming. Taryn Young never expected that scenario to happen to her. What she expected even less was to find that same Prince Charming had married her for her software secrets and left her to die

in an airport bombing on their honeymoon. Enter the FBI and special agents Grayson Hall and his partner Vince. The FBI is convinced that Taryn is in cahoots with terrorists. How does Taryn stay alive long enough to disprove that theory?

An essential software program that could destroy America, a little girl's life, and two hearts hang in the balance of this fast-paced, high- octane, murky mystery. This novel will engage your brain on all levels as you try to figure out who the ultimate "boss" is and cheer for the heroine and hero as they race the clock to save loved ones and their country.

As they work through solving the software and safety issues, the main characters also grow in their respective faith levels. Not preachy, just there.

This book was like an onion, peeling back the layers of both the nearly perfect terrorist plot and the layers of the human heart and emotion. You won't want to miss a look at either!

I received this book from bookfun.org in exchange for an honest review.

Review: From the moment I started the book right through the very end it was non-stop! The action and story was moving so fast that I was on pins and needles for the majority of the time. I had to put the book down just to calm my pounding heart. The twists and turns were fantastic! It was as if the bad guys always knew where she was and there were so many of them that I was just daunting at times. Taryn was a multifaceted character with lots of personality and easy to like and empathize with. She was exceedingly smart, surprising in the things she did and well written. This is the first book by DiAnn Mills that I have read and I will be looking forward to reading many more.
I would like to thank Net Galley and Tyndale House Publishing for allowing me to read and review this book in return for a free copy and I was never asked to write a favorable review by anyone.

When DiAnn Mills says she wants her readers to have an adventure she means it! Her newest novel, Firewall, starts off with a bang and the suspense never lets up. If you like romantic suspense, then definitely check out Firewall.

Taryn is a software developer who specializes in protective programs

for highly sensitive systems. When she is swept off her feet by the charming Shep, she cannot believe her good fortune. But a dream-come-true honeymoon soon turns into a nightmare as she survives a terror attack and then is implicated in the bombing. Using her considerable analytical skills as well as a healthy dose of martial arts, Taryn continues to elude the bad guys while helping Special Agent Grayson Hall discover who is behind the crimes.

Non-stop action is the hallmark of Firewall. Taryn and Grayson go from one impossible situation to the next, dodging kidnappers and evading assassins. There are sparks between the two main characters, but Mills handles it in a realistic way. Both are cautious and their circumstances warrant it. The mystery continues to the very end — I did not see the final showdown coming! There is also a great dog character for animal lovers. Faith is explored as Taryn discovers new belief in God and Grayson continues a life dependent on Him.

So for a great reading adventure filled with adrenaline and didn’t-see-it-coming surprises, check out Firewall.

Recommended.

There are some authors whose books I read just as soon as I get my hands on them. James Rollins, Stephen King, like that. Another writer I have added to that list is DiAnn Mills. Total different genre, as she is a Christian romantic suspense author, but her books effect me like that. I just enjoy

her writing, her characters, her stories, her mixing of faith with law enforcement. This book mixes computers, terrorists, bombers, the FBI, and a big dog with a sweet love story to arrive at a happy ending.

If you love fast-paced intrigue that involves high tech software affecting international trade, terrorist plots, FBI investigations, tight deadlines, assassins, greedy Wall Street players, software developers, betrayal, and threats to national security, you will enjoy Firewall. The pace is
Show More
relentless and will definitely keep you awake.

Taryn Young is head developer for Gated Labs Technology, a software development company that is involved in handling top-secret government contracts. The project she's been working on most recently is a program that protects the delivery system that transports liquid natural gas (LNG) for export. She designed the firewall that prevents hackers from taking control of the pipeline. Should the software get into the wrong hands, the controlled temperature could be tampered with, causing an explosion of the volatile gas, threatening lives, causing prices to rise in the market. Two buyers have already purchased the new technology, and the date of export was drawing near.

Taryn has just gotten married; she and her new husband were on their way to San Juan, a rare vacation for her. While waiting near one of the airport's gates, an explosion ripped through the building. Taryn woke up in the hospital with a head injury hours later, her husband missing, and two FBI agents were eyeing her coldly.

Special Agent Grayson Hall was an FBI agent experienced with the Joint Terrorism Task Force and was called in because of his expertise. He was assigned to Taryn Young and her husband Francis Shepherd to explore a possible connection between her software and the bombing incident. Shepherd's disappearance with all Taryn's gadgets, including her iPhone which held the key to a back door to the new program called Nehemiah only implicated them further. Grayson and his partner were of the opinion that Shepherd and Young were part of the airport bombing. In just a matter of hours, Taryn has gone from newlywed to fugitive and she doesn't know who to trust.

The deeper the book gets into the plot, the greater are the complications, twists and turns that take the reader away from earlier assumptions. Even when Taryn teams up with Agent Grayson, the earliest bits and pieces of information being accumulated by countless agents on the job didn't make sense. The action, however, keeps us guessing and reading on.

In spite of the intense, suspenseful action, the author uses temporary lulls to give the main characters an opportunity for reflection. Such introspection fleshes out the individuals we are learning to care for in all the fracas. Throughout the many betrayals, the captures, the shocking revelations, the horror of lives lost, and loss of trust, Taryn remembers her friend Claire encouraging her to place her problems in God's hands. What did she have to lose? She calls out to God for help and eventually through the horrendous events, Taryn learns to trust Him.

Another tactic the author used when the tension ramped up was to bring in Joe, Agent Hall's uncle who was himself a retired FBI agent. I loved how Joe brought to the mix a break in intensity because of his personality, his wit and wisdom, and his relationship with his nephew. The two men worked with each other like a well-oiled machine. Their quips added levity at just the right moments, yet Joe was also a good agent and when the chips were down, he played an important role in solving the many questions posed by things that were baffling other agents. He even assisted in finding the mole within the Agency itself.

There's a lot to like in this suspenseful story. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys action-packed intrigue.

An interesting mystery thriller that deals with computer software programming for the oil and gas industry. Taryn thinks she's found the man of her dreams, but just as they are about to start their honeymoon, a bomb goes off and ignites an investigation that reveals Taryn's "husband" is not who he
Show More
says he is. Taryn decides to trust an FBI agent and together they unravel the case.

I did suspect who the person behind it all was before it was revealed--something that is rare for me to do and be correct. I felt for Taryn from the very first chapter and found myself rooting for the romance between her and the FBI character to move forward.

3.5 stars.

Yikes, this was intense! Lots of crazy twists and turns, and action scenes. The main reason I docked a few stars was the main characters. I just felt very "Meh" about them the whole time. They felt flat. I actually liked the background characters (JOE!) better than the MCs.

Overall, I
Show More
did enjoy the story, and finished this in less than a day. Mills' writing style is very engaging and definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat.

CONTENT: Recommended for ages 16 for mature themes and violence. A few vague-ish mentions of a couple's wedding night, mentions of the MC refusing to be intimate with her fiance before they were married, a few not-descriptive kisses, violence, and a few murders.
