This wonderful pamphlet offers perceptive and useful guidance on what we are doing in Quaker worship, and how to do it, and thus is a valuable resource for deepening meeting for worship. He counsels noticing, patience, and a regular spiritual practice, as well as putting aside our own thoughts to center on inward attention to the spirit. He discusses and gives examples of the guidance to be received from expectant listening. His report of his own thread of messages is inspiring.… (more)

Expectant listening: do we really expect to hear God in our lives? Do we actually expect to find God's guidance? Even more, do we expect our Meetings to last as long as they need, or do we expect them to end at or near the end of an hour?
